DESTINY'S LEGACY:
A Destiny Jones Graphic Novel

By Dakota Balmore

It's The Incredible Hulk meets Little Miss Muffet in this fantasy view of Earth where the continent of Atlantis thrives with an American type civilization. Meek college dropout and office clerk, Tina Terranova, finds herself thrust into the limelight of her CPA/EPA-like agency when agent Destiny Jones is murdered for stumbling onto a corporate plot to market an addictive product.

SCENE ONE

PAGE ONE (two panels)

SCENE 1

Panel 1. Overview of a metropolis. The tallest building has a pyramid-shaped roof. CAP:

Tonshiga, the capital city of the Confederated Provinces of Lybrenia. In a universe parallel to our own, the CPL is a very large island in the center of the North Atlantic Ocean. Once called Atlantis, it was the home of an ancient advanced civilization that almost died out.

Panel 2. A closer view of one side of the pyramid-roofed building. Two dialogue balloons protrude from an office very high up.

CAP:

Headquarters for the Lamnardy provincial office of the National Environmental and Consumer Protection Agency (N. E. C. P. A.)

ELLISON:

TeeTee, I'm going to leave Mr. McGivers with you. I've got to see agent Roth a minute. You two can chat about his heritage. He's from the United States … where your grandfather originated.

TEETEE:

Yuppers, boss.

PAGE TWO (four panels)

Panel 1. Tina Terranova (TeeTee) placing folders in her filing cabinet outside five offices. She's wearing her usual tight, long-sleeved top and snug slacks. The executive director, Ellison Van Tilburg, stands in front of Tina's desk with Darren McGivers.

DARREN:

How long will you be, Mr. Van Tilburg?

ELLISON:

Just a sec.

Panel 2. Ellison enters agent Roth's office. Tina and Ellison watch, Tina from her filing cabinet holding a file up, Darren front in front of her desk.

Panel 3. Tina reaches her desk and sets the folder down.

DARREN:

TeeTee? What sort of name is that?

TEETEE (thought):

What a jerk? Could have guessed he was American.

TEETEE:

It's short for Tina. I'm Tina Terranova … initials T.T.

Panel 4. Looking over Darren's shoulder at Tina.

DARREN:

I'm Darren McGivers. You can call me … well, Mr. McGivers.

PAGE THREE (three panels)

Panel 1. Tina extends her hand and they shake.

TEETEE (thought):

Anal aperture.

TEETEE:

So, what brought you to the Confederated Provinces of Lybrenia?

DARREN:

I went to college here as a foreign exchange student … liked it … and stayed.

Panel 2:

Looking from Tina's desk, Destiny Jones steps out of her office dressed in a short-sleeved top and an above-the-knee skirt.

DESTINY:

TeeTee, I'm going to that meeting with the new lawyer for the Court of Consumer Protection.

Panel 3. Destiny standing beside Darren at Tina's desk. Darren shakes his head.

DARREN:

Are you … an agent here?

TEETEE:

Oh, Destiny Jones, meet Darren McGivers.

DESTINY:

Am I an agent here? Mr. McGivers, I'm not sure that makes me glad to meet you.

PAGE FOUR (three panels)

Panel 1. Destiny extends her hand and Darren stares at it.

Panel 2. Destiny hands a piece of paper to Tina.

DESTINY:

Here, TeeTee. Be sure to place this in the Empire Corporation file. I just found something juicy on a new scam their working.

TEETEE:

We still on for dinner at six?

DESTINY:

Yuppers. I'll get the new lawyer to drop me off at Peppinos.

Panel 3. Destiny leaves without looking at Darren. Tina reads the report.

PAGE FIVE (five panels)

Panel 1. Darren leans on the desk as Tina sits in her desk chair.

DARREN:

Should a common clerk be reading such sensitive material? And what's this fraternizing with the upper echelon after hours?

TEETEE (thought):

What an anal aperture.

TEETEE:

So, why are they considering hiring another agent? They just cut us from four to three six months ago. Imagine, three whole agents for all of Lamnardy Province. When will our ultra-conservative government come to its senses?

Panel 2. Looking over Darren's shoulder still hunched over Tina's desk.

DARREN:

You're ignoring me, TeeTee.

TEETEE:

That's miss. Miss Terranova is ignoring you.

DARREN:

And since when do they have female agents working here?

Panel 3:

Close up of Tina's face as she smiles.

TEETEE:

Since they developed an acute case of common sense in this office … unlike those batty-headed federal politicians that infest this city.

Panel 4. Tina picks up the report Destiny and reads it. Darren starts walking around the side of Tina's desk.

DARREN:

Tonshiga is the national capital. If you don't like being around the federal politicians, then go live in one of the other eleven provinces.

Panel 5. Darren stands behind Tina. Tina slaps the paper on the desk.

TEETEE:

Mr. McGivers. You don't have a clearance with our agency yet.

DARREN:

I haven't been hired yet. But … you're a clerk … and you have clearance?

TEETEE:

Secretary-clerk. In the last round of federal budget cuts they merged the two positions. And … I do have a security clearance.

PAGE SIX (five panels)

Panel 1. Darren moves to the side of Tina's desk.

DARREN:

It's just that environmental engineer seems too awesome of a job for a woman to perform.

TEETEE (thought):

Yeah, shouldn't Destiny be filing papers or something?

TEETEE:

If you come on board, you will find there is a measure of respect bordering on equality toward females. Destiny Jones carries her load … and it is equal to both Sean Roth's and Damon Akers'.

Panel 2. Close up of Darren's face.

DARREN:

I hear she's the junior agent on the team. We'll just see if she holds up.

TEETEE (OP):

Well, I knew Destiny since my first year of college. She does a bang up job at whatever she attempts.

DARREN:

What can I say? That is the opinion of … another woman.

Panel 3. TeeTee in the foreground as Ellison exits from agent Roth's office in the background.

TEETEE (thought - OP):

That's it. After work I'm buying his image in a voodoo doll and sticking pins right through Mr. Anal.

Panel 4. Ellison and Darren at TeeTee's desk.

ELLISON:

Okay, that take's care of that. Ready to move on, Darren?

DARREN:

Whenever you are.

Panel 5. Two shot of Tina shoving a thumb toward Darren.

TEETEE:

Ellison, since when are we thinking of adding another agent? They just cut one.

PAGE SEVEN (five panels)

Panel 1. Close up of Ellison.

ELLISON:

I know. Freaky isn't it.

DARREN (OP):

Mr. Van Tilburg, she just called you by your first name.

Panel 2. The three of them around the desk.

ELLISON:

We're pretty loose around here. Tina is part of our family. She's just as important to me as Sean Roth or Destiny Jones.

TEETEE:

Ellison … you remember I'm leaving at three to get my flu shot.

Panel 3. Full shot of Ellison. His face is in two positions. First facing TeeTee and second toward Darren.

ELLISON (toward TeeTee):

Sure, TeeTee. I remember.

ELLISON (toward Darren):

Now, come with me, Darren.

Panel 4. The desk is in the foreground. Darren bends over close to Tina's ear. Ellison is opening the office door in the background.

DARREN (whisper):

I find you appalling. If you worked for me … you'd no longer work for me.

Panel 5. Darren at the door is turned toward TeeTee.

TEETEE:

Male chauvinist pig.

DARREN:

I'll remember you said that.

TEETEE:

Anal aperture.
